Ballroom has been a safe haven for all walks of life since the early 1970’s. Marginalized communities, especially Transgender brothers and sisters created a place to express themselves and created community and family throughout these elaborate events. Pillars in Ballroom would foster, mentor and take in youth – these would be the Mothers of the scene. Mothers taught their children life skills, connected them to resources that benefitted their mental, emotional and physical states. Many times Mothers were the thin line between life and death for so many, especially during the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the 1980’s.
TransVive has the opportunity to work with the Legendary and Iconic Gulf Coast Regional Mothers to host 2023’s Annual Mother’s Day Ball. This year’s theme is Inclusive Motherhood- an evening of passion and performance in celebration of all walks of Motherhood. The event was a huge success and spectacular time!
